We do what we term an OB estimate once a patient is confirmed pregnant to try and determine costs related to the antepartum care, delivery and pp. We sit down with the patient and explain in detail about the benefits that have been quoted to us by the patient's ins company and figure out a payment plan during the pregancy so that the estimate of costs are paid in full prior to delivery. This is confusing to the patients and our staff.
Can anyone give me guidance in this area?
I know each practice has their own policies and I am only looking for guidance as how to collect in a timely manner BUT not drastically over or under collect.
In these times of higher deductibles and high unemployment we are trying to stay on top of our patient A/R.
