Patient with diabetes osteomyelitis (250.8x) and has diabetes autonomic neuropathy (250.6x), admission was for foot osteromyelits, cellulitis and ulcer...can i code 250.6x as pdx or does it have to be 250.8x ??

help! thank you.

I would code the 250.8x and then add the codes for the diabetic osteomyelitis and the ulcers (assuming they are diabetic ulcers). Then, I would code the cellulitis

Based on my understanding of your original post, the patient was not seen for any neuropathy THAT visit. He can be both 250.6x AND 250.8x, but only seen for one during a given visit.

I'm missing where this pt was seen for a neuro issue, unless you are calling the myelitis neurological - I could be wrong, but I think the myelitis codes better as a secondary to 250.8x vs. 250.6x

I agree...patient wasn't seen for neuro..focus and reason for admit was due to osteomyelitis.

thanks for clarifying.
