My doctor was advised by our EMR company that he no longer needs to code Type 2 patients with an additional code to identify control : whether using an oral, insulin or both. The ICD10 for E11.... Type 2 diabetes mellitus states to use the additional code. Can someone provide me with an update and source on the requirement for these additional codes?

"Use additional code" just means if documentation supports it then use an additional code.
