Coding for Wound Care and wondering if there is a better diagnosis code(s) for transmetarsal amputation than amputation of foot? I can use the toes code but that is not really correct and it seems as if the full foot code is not accurate either?

The diagnosis codes represent the reason a procedure is performed. "amputation of foot" is a procedure. Why is the patient having this procedure?

Diabetes with infection. Only removed the toes at the transmetatarsal level. Patient still has half a foot.

We are confused by the question somewhat.
If you are talking about the CPT, depending on the op note, it is most likely 28805 Amputation, foot, transmetatarsal.

Or, are you asking about after the fact, you are coding the wound care to the amputated foot and need to know how to code the dx for the aftercare of the wound? It depends on the documentation. If it is a complication or infection (as you stated above) it might involve the T codes like complication of amputation stump or infection of amputation stump. If not and it is standard aftercare, you might be looking at the aftercare following amputation Z section, or possibly adding acquired absence of ...
Then, you would consider the diabetes codes depending on what is documented and what else is going on.
What does the note state?

Since "transmetatarsal" is specified, that is more than just the toes. It is a partial amputation of the foot. So acquired absence of the foot would appropriately represent the amputation status.
