is there a difference between stenosis, spondylosis, and herniated disks? we have a dr who has spondylosis for all of her surgeries, but also says stenosis & herniated disks & wants us to always code 63047 just because she has spondylosis, when, they might not necessarily have it, but she thinks spondylosis is herniated disk & stenosis.

any help would be appreciated in clarification!

You have three separate diagnoses...
1. Stenosis (M48 range) is the narrowing of the open space within the spine
2. Spondylosis (M47 range) is spinal degeneration often due to aging
3. Herniated disc (M51 range) is also know as slipped, ruptured, or buldging disc; the inner core buldges out through the outer layer of ligaments
