I need help figuring out the correct dx coding under this scenario

Pt has cellulitis of the leg and has (4 times) tested positive for gram + cocci with identification of MSSA. Hospitalist asks cardiologist to evaluate for possible subacute bacterial endocarditis.

Echo was done day before & is normal.
No evidence of SBE.

What dx code(s) would you use for this consult? (This is a work comp pt BTW for the cellulitis)

cellulitis of leg

Hi,

In this scenario no evidence of current subacute bacterial endocarditis and also current visit is primarily for cellulitis of leg with Methicillin-Susceptible Staphylococcus Aureus infection. So we can code 682.6, 041.11.

What dx to use?

I should have specified...I am coding the prof fee for the Cardiologist consult. Cardiologist is not managing or treating the cellulitis. Still say cellulitis as 1st listed dx?

Cardiologist consult - rule out endocarditis

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I could use the V71.7 since the patient is not in observation status & it was a prof fee consult.

Appreciate your help:)
