Wiki Difference beterrn GT and 95 modifiers

Can you clarify what the difference is between the GT and 95 modifier? The descriptions seem so similar and some insurances say bill 95 or GT.

Thank you! What do you do when they give you the option between 95 or GT? I do not understand why they would do that but many do so I just want to make sure I am selecting the correct modifier.
 
It depends on the carrier. Medicare guidance is -95, and most carriers are following that same guidance. We are using -95 unless the carrier guidance is specifically to use -GT.
 
Yep, I was told GT modifier by bigger carriers like BCBS, Tricare, and Aetna. But, was told to use the 95 modifier by smaller companies like Benefit Management.
