One of the doctors I code for wants me to code a patients Discharg:mad:e Summary as a Consult: my opinion is this can not be coded as a Consult, it is a Discharge Summary. What is your opinion?
 
In order to bill for the discharge summary, doesn't the provider have to be the ordering physician or qualified health care professional? If yes, how do you meet the criteria for a consult?

The "F Word" would come into play here, Fraud. A discharge is not a consult. Besides, who pays them? either <30 or >30, that is the choice. Must be the physician of record for that DOS, not the admitter who is now on a European vacation, or just home watching the kids.
