Wiki discontinuation syndrome(prescribed med)

Need some assistance with ICD 9 coding would this be considered withdrawl or adverse effect of properly administered drug

If they've discontinued using the med, then it's neither. Adverse effect is coded based on a condition while they're using the drug, not after they've stopped taking it. The withdrawal code is to be used only if the patient is suffering from some sort of psychiatric issue due to discontinuing the drug. So unless that's documented in the note, do not use the withdrawal code. Is it a steroid? There are codes specifically for steroid withdrawal.
What are the symptoms? Is the patient non-compliant? You may have to just code the symptoms.
