I have been coding exclusively for an outpatient facility. I am thinking of applying for an inpatient charge capture position. In checking out our local hospital site, there was an exercise for potential candidates. The question reads as follows:
Scenario:
A department of the hospital is evaluating if they can begin charging for Disposable Wound VACs. They have asked the Charge Capture Specialist if it is appropriate.
Task:
Please research the charging/billing rules for DME supplies provided in a hospital setting. Please provide a summary of your research and state if it is chargeable. Please include the references you utilized and why you felt they are the appropriate references to assist in answering this question. The answer you provide is less important that you showing your ability to research with appropriate resources.
Any suggestions on where to even begin researching this topic of reimbursement in a hospital setting ? Thanks in advance !
