Sorry I posted this in another thread

Can you use codes 250.13 and 250.00 together?

I don't think so but I'm stuck. Dr. wrote "new onset of diabetes mellitus in a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis.

Thanks

They are contradicting codes, you can not use them together. 250.00 is DM w/o mention of complication/type II or unspecified, not stated as uncontrolled. DKA is a complication of DM. 250.1X is correct, but your 5th digit is dependent on the type and control.

I hope this is helpful.
