Trying to get an answear how to code DM with proteinuria. Some coders suggest 250.4. and 791.0 When I look in ICD-9 book 791.0 is not under codes of nephro manifistation and the right way would be 250.0. and 791.0
 
Does the documentation link the two together? Without the proteinuria clearly being documented as a manifestation of the DM, I would use 250.0x.
 
250.40 OR 250.42 can be associated with 791.0 (microalbuminuria) which is a renal manifestation of DM2. That is my provider EXACT answear to the question
