I have been trying very unsuccessfully to get reimbursed for Tens units (E0730) I have used modifiers RR KH for first rentals and RR KI for second rentals and NR for Purchase and still nothing but denials! Please help!
I am a DME biller and the TENs units are difficult to get paid. It will depend on your insurance and definitely the diagnosis codes. Plain old lumbago will not cut it for many insurance companies. Only one insurance company I use will purchase the item while several others will only rent, and Medicare specifically will rent but there has to be several parameters in place such as a previous study, usage and very specific diagnoses. Depending on what insurance you are going through I would call them directly or if it is Medicare take a look at the LCD. Also for some future reference if your facility is not in network with a certain insurance company many DME items will not be covered, to include TENs therapy due to being chiropractic and experimental.
