I know that Medicare requires an order for dispensing DME. Do you have to have a written order for patients who pay cash for off shelf orthotics?

Medicare does not cover orthotics so most patients will pay cash- and we do not bill Medicare. Do we still have to have a written order???

That depends on whether or not the item "requires" a prescription by the FDA.

So No, if no Rx is required by FDA then you don't need a prescription.
