I am coding a chart note where the pt has a fx. We are not doing fx care in the office, however sx was performed the very nexy day which would indicate that I use a mod 57 on the office visit. My question is regarding the splint that was put on pt. Usually, if mod 57 is used on the OV then we dont bill out for the application of the splint but just the materials but that is when we are billing fx care in the office. I am wondering if same applies, if we are determining sx for the very next day, do I still just bill for the materials or would i be able to bill both application and materials for the splint, since fx care is not being done in the office. Thank you for your help!! :)

I would, since they'll have to put another one on after the surgery. The surgery code only bundles ONE casting/splinting service. The Q code for the materials is billable whether you bill for the splinting or not. You use it, you lose it - you lose it you bill for the cost of it.
