Help!

Do I need a modifer if procedure was attempted and doctor did another procedure instead. The patient's well being wasn't being threatened. The procedure involved the doctor inserting a need for an interventional procedure and encountered bone. (pt's blood pressure, etc were fine)

But the doctor did try a procedure but couldn't do it, so can I still bill out for the attempted procedure?

Thanks,:o

Please post scrubbed procedure note

For an accurate response to procedural coding questions, please post the scrubbed operative/procedure note.

That said, usually ... if you start with a less invasive procedure and convert to a more invasive procedure (percutaneous to cut-down, or laparoscopic to open) you code only the more invasive procedure.

Can't really tell in your scenario because I haven't seen the operative note.
