Physician wants to get paid for an ob delivery but was not present at time of delivery. He was out of town at the time. This is his patient and he has seen her for all prenatal visits. Can he still get paid for this service? He is pressuring his biller to submit a claim to insurance.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all get paid for work we haven't done?

To be serious though, I believe the physician could possibly expect to bill and be paid for the delivery if it was performed by another physician that 1) he has paid to perform it while he was away, and 2) with whom he has a reciprocal billing arrangement or shares a practice, and 3) who will not themselves be billing the insurance directly for this service, and 4) IF the payer's policies allow for this kind of billing arrangement. Otherwise I don't know of a scenario where the physician could expect payment for a service that they haven't personally performed.
