I have a doctor who is closing his practice due to retirement but he is going to continue to do surgical assists. I don't want to terminate his connections to insurance companies but is there anything specific that I need to do to show that he is not seeing patients?

We bill for a few doctors that have retired and only assist. At times, random commercial insurances will call wanting to set up appointments. The biggest thing you are going to want to tell all the main companies you bill is that they are "no longer accepting new patients" Most of the time they will want a little clarity, just let them know the MD will be doing only asssting surgeries from now on. That usually takes care of getting them out of their "active provider list", or whatever similar they may have.
