Wiki does cpt 88314 need additional code 88312 or 88313?

88314 is an add-on code and must have a primary service billed with it. From Codify:

CPT® Code 88314

Special stain including interpretation and report; histochemical stain on frozen tissue block (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)
Notes:
(Use 88314 in conjunction with 17311-17315, 88302-88309, 88331, 88332)

May I please offer some advice as a denial specialist.
I'm unsure what type of system you are operating from but unfortunately sometimes charges simply do not bill together on the same invoice and they will bill out on two separate invoices; however in a "perfect billing world" if your system had been cooperative, those charges would have billed together and been reimbursed all on the same invoice.
Were you denied with "missing primary procedure"? If this is your scenario - you will want to appeal. That has been one of my woes in my position. Send a copy of both invoices and include a copy of the pathology report to support billing all the charges.
Thanks for listening and have a wonderful evening,
Dana
