Physician did a cysto, pelvic exam, bilateral retrograde pyelograms, and double dye test.

After he did the cysto and the retrogrades, he says he drained and irrigated the bladder multiple times. Filled the bladder through a 16-French Foley catheter with dilute methylene blue. The was done after irrigating the vaginal space with a catheter tip syringe and then packing it with 3 separate gauze with one on the left, one on the right, and one in the posterior midline. We distended the bladder with about 500 mL of this methylene blue mixture. We waited about 10 minutes and then removed the gauze. There was no sign of any orange outstanding. There was a small amount of blue staining on the midline gauze consistent with vesicovaginal fistula.

Is this included in the 52005 or does this have a separate CPT code?

Thank you.

Billing for the instillation of the methyline blue stained fluid would be CPT code 51700. This CPT code is bundled into 52005, retrograde study, and cannot be unbundled and consequently not separately billable for this clinical scenario.
