Just wondering if anyone out there has heard of an "official implementation" date for the use of DSM-5. It has been my understanding that DSM-5 would be implemented with ICD-10.

Here in Minnesota there is much confusion following a behavioral health conference where it was mentioned that DHS wants DSM-5 implemented as of 1/1/14, however that is not substantiated on any of the information I have access to, nor on the DHS website.


We have yet to hear of any official implementation from CMS either.

Wondering if anyone knows anything or has some information about this?

Yes, it came out in May of 2013, however there was never an official implementation date (to my knowledge).

Some of the codes are not the same as ICD-9, so we were told that we should hold off until an official implementation date was determined, but we have conflicting information regarding that:(
