My doctor was on call and charged the same e/m code 99232, as another doctor in the hospital. They were already paid and we are being denied because of this. Do I use a modifier? We were not the admitting doctor but he was called and saw the patient for different diagnosis. Anyone have any idea??? Thanks! :)

You need to call the insurance company and let them know that you are not affiliated with the other doctor and your doctor saw the patient for another diagnosis.

I used to work for a multispecialty office and I would have more than one doctor in my office see the same patient for different reasons. As long as the doctor saw the patient for a different diagnosis you should get paid. It should only take a phone call.
