I have an internal medicine dr who wants to bill out for DVT prophylaxis for patients who are post-op. Most of these patients are post-op from ortho surgery (i.e., hip or knee replacement). The ortho surgeon consults him and he prescribes a DVT prophylaxis. I have never billed for anything like this. He says in the past he has billed out a consult code and dx V58.61. I don't feel comfortable with this but don't know the proper way to bill for this service. Any advice out there is much appreciated.
