Dx category codes 946 and 949 - what's the difference?

946 codes would be used if the provider stated the patient had for instance 2nd degree burns of the shoulder, chest and arm. It is recommended that you use the individual codes instead. 949 would be used if the provided stated for instance, patient with 3rd degree burns. However it is advisable that the provider be requested to amend the record with more specific information.
