Hello,

After reviewing the guidelines it states that signs and symptoms are not to be coded if a definitive dx has been documented.

Physician documents 2 diagnoses, lung nodule and malignant neoplasm of lung.

so my question is would I code the lung nodule as 793.11 and lung neoplasm as 162.9, or would it only be 162.9 because the lung nodule is under signs and symptoms and there is a definitive dx of lung cancer?

Thanks for your input.

If the lung Cancer was diagnosed from the nodule then you code only the neoplasm. If the neoplasm was already diagnosed and there is a new nodule then code both.
