What ICD 10 code should be used when you see a patient after surgery after the 90 day global period for a follow up spine surgery. We have been using z48.89 along with the original dx of M51.16. We are now being told that we should use Z48.89 only.

Please help!

it is incorrect to code the preoperative condition for postoperative encounter if the condition no longer exists. Just code the after care Z code or code the Z09 follow up code with a Z code for history of the pre op condition.
