Pt comes in for Chronic Pain Management. I'm not finding a code for this, would I use the code for chronic pain?

Thx

Any other documentation?

If there is more specific documentation, such as the location of the pain, that should be used. The codes for chronic pain (338.2x) may be used in conjunction with these, or can be used alone if there is no specific location documented. Since your patient is presenting for pain management, the chronic pain code would be used as the first-listed diagnosis, followed by an underlying cause and/or site-specfic code as appropriate.

Refer to the ICD-9 official guidelines for Chapter 6 codes if you need more - that is where I obtained this information. :)
