Wiki dx code for negative scan

I am having a debate with one of my physicians over what to use as a dx code. The situation is this: a doctor refers a patient to our office for PVD that has not been confirmed. The doctor just "feels" that this patient has PVD. Our RVT does a scan on this patient and does not find evidence of PVD. Would we still use PVD as the dx for the scan since that was the dx she was referred to us for, even though it came back negative or V72.5?
I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Have you tried calling the referring physicians office to find out why PVD was suspected? It is a tough one with Medicare to get paid, but 9 times out of 10, there is some reason why they suspect it. I would go with V71.89 otherwise.
