Hi there,

Question on breast cancer icd-10 coding. When a physician notes L breast cancer at 3 o'clock, 5 cm from nipple- is this coded as overlapping sites? I get confused when there is cm from the nipple.

How about breast cancer at 11:30. Is this also considered overlapping sites?

Thanks!

The provider is giving you the quadrant. You need to know left or right breast and male or female. Then given the clock location and that is is away from the nipple you can code the specific code.

Hi Debra,

Not sure I understand-so a female with L breast cancer at 3 o'clock, 5 cm from the nipple is upper outer or lower outer?
