Hello,

I have a provider that performed a colpo (57454) and used B97.7 (Papillomavirus as the cause of diseases classified elsewhere), I explained that is can not be used as primary and it was stated "this is why the pt came in, cytology was normal". Any ideas on what other DX can be used?

Thanks!

Do you have any records to look at? Did the patient have an HPV infection, or just a symptom, problem, abnormal test result or other reason for having the procedure? You can't really come up with a diagnosis code with such limited information.

No :( nothing in the medical record. Just states here for colposcopy and past results of Paps, which were normal

why would your provider do a Colp if the cytology was normal? was there any cervical dysplasia, erosion or abnormality noted in his previous exam? if so, you could refer to the appropriate N-code-
