Hello,
Pt was scheduled for surgery today, unfortunately this morning, he has complained of calf pain which he has had for several days. Dr was not comfortable with his calf pain since this is of new onset. Dr canceled surgery and sent him for a doppler ultrasound.
Dr did a History, examination, medical decision making in the hospital, Pt was Outpatient. Is there a code I can bill for this????

Established patient visit

If patient was outpatient and this is NOT his "admission" to observation ... then you'd use the the established patient visit code.

If surgery was immediately rescheduled for within a few days, you might wind up needing -24 modifier to satisfy the payer that this was unrelated to the surgery.

Oh, I never used those codes for hospital only office, but by reading in the cpt book, I guess you can. Learn something new everyday.
Thank you so much,
Daisy :)
