If a patient is seen by a psychiatrist for an evaluation and management service on a given date, and is also seen for psychotherapy by a psychologist or social worker on the same date of service by a member of the same group practice, should an add on code be utilized to reported the psychotherapy (90833, 90836, 90838) or should a psychotherapy code that is not an add on code be captured (90832, 90834, 90837)? Can anyone provide specific guidance from CMS or other appropriate source concerning this? Thanks.
