Since the E-prescribe system is set up to allow the doctor to get medication history, how does this come into play with HIPAA guidelines? After all, a patient would have to sign a separate release for HIV or mental health information - but, by virtue of seeing those meds on the medication history...might be disclosing more than they had intended to.

How is everyone else handling this? Informing them on the HIPAA form that medication history will be retrieved? Or, are you having patients sign a completely separate release form and mentioning that those medications could possibly show up?
