Patient was on ECMO for about a week so the 33960/33961 appropriated codes were billed. Pt was taken off ECMO and remained in hospital for 2 more weeks. Patient was then re-started on ECMO--do we bill the 33960 for the first 24 hrs or do we continue with the 33961?

That was my first reaction too after being asked this question. Then after I thought about it I started to second guess myself and ended up here :)
