Hello to all. I am a billing compliance auditor who has been assigned a special project for ED coding. I would appreciate any advice as this is a new branch of coding for me. Other than assigning the correct level of Evaluation and Management codes for emergency services what else should I review the documentation for in order to code with accuracy. Again, any information or guidance is greatly appreciated.
 
Be on the lookout for any procedures ranging from I&D of abscesses to laceration repairs, fracture care (depending on the hospital) plus any ancillaries like cardiac monitors, EKG's, and xrays (again, depending on the hospital and if you are supposed to code for them).

also infusions. Those are big for auditing. Understand the heirarchy. Also immunizations. Not done often in ER's except for prophylactic against (i.e. rabies, tetanus) etc. These are sometimes missed.
