I work for a neurologist who reprogrammed a patients VNS. Then he did an EEG on the same day as the reprogramming to see if the patient had epileptic seizures. I thought if the patient had a VNS it is because they have epilepsy or epileptic seizures. I am just making sure that it is correct to do an EEG no someone who has a VNS?

Thanks for your help.

According to the Vitalware coding app. there are no CCI edits for 95974 and 95816 codes being billed together. They follow Medicare rules...I would make sure the provider is also documenting the time for the VNS reprogramming, as it is time based (up to one hour). The diagnosis codes for 95974 are very specific also, to my knowledge there are only two that are payable for 95974 (345.41 and 345.51) and both of these are intractable epilepsy. Hope this helps you...
