If an EGD and colonoscopy are done together and the EGD was aborted, would it be best to code 00813-53, or 00811 since the colonoscopy was able to be completed. thank you

If the EGD was aborted, modifier 53 will be submitted by the surgeon. Modifier 53 is not billed for anesthesia. Being that anesthesia was already administered, code the case as you normally would. If you have the ability to add Z53.x, you can show that the procedure was discontinued. If the colonoscopy was performed, use 00813.
