I just started coding EKG's and still a little confused on coding the diagnosis. Example: lateral infarct, age indeterminate; Are you still supposed to code for the later infarct?

410.90 Infarction is an MI. I would use this code since there is no definitive on which wall: apical-lateral, basal-lateral, high-lateral, anterolateral, inferolateral wall, and ect. In this case your best option would be 410.90. IMO

If you have the opportunity, you could query the provider, as I do believe he/she was referring to a heart infarction but it could be an infarct of another type.
