One of our nurses coded the removal and replacement of pacemaker pulse generator
as 33213 and repair of electrode as 33218. Per CCI these codes cannot be used together
under any circumstances. How should this be coded?

Thanks for the input what about the repair? CCI doesn't allow 33228 and 33218 together
either. I appreciate your help

I see how she might use these codes this way. Very confusing. But lets see. 33213 in 2012 (see chart in cpt) is for INITIAL generator insertion ONLY with exsisting leads dual.

SInce this isnt the initial insertion of the pacemaker generator we cannot use 33213. If this is a replacement generator(change out) you would use the new codes 33227-33229.
