From an EMR Analyst standpoint, what are you doing to prepare for ICD-10?
I feel like we are dependent upon ICD-10 being available in our EMR's before we can do much of anything.
Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated.

I wouldn't wait until ICD-10 is available on your EMR to learn as much as you can about ICD-10. When will ICD-10 be available on your EMR?. You don't want your EMR provider cutting it too close. 10/1 is coming fast! And you really want the EMR functioning with ICD-10 for the March dry run with CMS.
One thing you can do is speak to your coding personnel. Some are already parellel coding ICD-9 and 10. Then look at what additional EMR documentation capability will be required for all of those codes and all of that granularity.

Thank you for your response.
Prior to joining our EMR team, I was in our coding department and we were already prepping for ICD-10 and that work has continued.
We have to do an upgrade in order to have ICD10 available and the test environment we will get should be next month with the upgrade in April.
I was wondering from an IT standpoint, what people were working on in regards to ICD10.
