what code would be used for acute on chronic encephalopathy?

I can find acute encephalopathy 348.30 but none for chronic.

I would ask the provider what the cause of the chronic encephalopathy is and code accordingly from there. In my opinion, if it's chronic something must be causing it. Otherwise it would be the same code per coding guidelines, 348.30.
