There are a very small number of patients who are brought to the ER yet cannot go home for various reasons and do not meet admission criteria.
They would normally live in the ERs for weeks to months on end until a disposition was eventually achieved or until very often they would get sick to meet inpatient criteria.
My question is...... Is there an outpatient code we can use to bill for the care we will provide to these patients since they are not admitted and cannot bill inpatient admission or inpatient followup codes?
