Does anyone know the status of Medicare's implementation of only 2 ER codes? Not familiar with this new concept. Thanks.

Not Happening

Hi,

I think you are refeering to the CMS proposal to shrink the 5 Facility ED Levels to 1 HCPC as part of the annual update. CMS will not be shrinking the ED Levels at this point, stated the matter needed more study and they need to come up with a fair methodilogy. Doesn't mean they haven't given up; but ED facility coding got a reprieve for a while. And you are right, it would have been two codes 1 for Tyle A EDs and 1 for Type B.
Medicare will be shrinking facility clinic codes to one HCPC, however.
