If a patient comes to the er and is registerd before midnight and gets dicharged after midnight what day does the e/m level get applied to? Day of admission or day of discharge?? And why? Thanks
 
It depends when the Doctor first saw the patient. If there was no face to face encounter before midnight then you would have to code the DOS for the following day.
