pt seen next day in ER for post op bleed in mouth.
billable or postop only?
thx

If performed by the surgeon, then this would be post op and no separate charges. The basic question to ask is would we be seeing the patient for this if they had not had the surgery. If the answer is no, then it would be part of any global period when provided by the surgeon or a member of the same group with the same specialty.

So if the problem is new or unrelated to reason for surgery, it seems it would be billable. If the same problem is being treated, then postop, nonbillable only. But in this case, an endoscope was used in a separate entryway, which has no global, so would be billable. How to determine when more than one procedure is being done, one with a 10 day global, one with 0 global.
