We may be taking over the billing and coding for the ED physicians. Meditech allows for a 1500 (professional) and a UB (technical) to drop from the same account. So if a patient presents to the ER then becomes an Inpatient, I am told we can add the ED Physician charges to the Inpatient account and the professional claim would drop from the same account. My question is the coding aspect of the scenario. The codes added for the entire inpatient stay would also drop for the ED physician claim.
Would this be considered overcoding since the ED documentation doesn't have the same information as the entire stay and discharge summary?
