I'm hoping to get some help with this. I have a denial I am working and the code used on the claim was P14.0 When I look this up it is for a newborn. What I am wondering is should it be P14.0xxP

I've tried looking around in the coding book but don't see any other age specific way to denote that this patient is not a newborn. Thanks for the help!:)
 
The chapter 16 guidelines indicate if the condition originates in the perinatal period and continues throughout the life of the patient, the perinatal code is to be used regardless of the patient's age.

My ICD-10 book actually uses Erb's paralysis as an example supporting this convention.
