Hello everyone-

Does anyone know how to code ESBL UTI? In the code book it doesn't state ESBL as an infectious agent, so I am wondering if it would code as N39.0 for the UTI and Z16.12 for resistance (documentation only says ESBL UTI, not specifically resistance)? or N39.0 and B96.89 ( Other specified bacterial agents as the cause of diseases classified elsewhere? Any guidance is appreciated!

When you follow 3M Coding Path: UTI-Unspecified-Due to-Bacteria-Other/Unspecified- With Resistance-ESBL you will get 3 codes:
1-N39.0 (UTI)
2-B96.89 (Unspecified bacterial agent)- ESBL is an enzyme produced by some bacteria, but we don't know what exact bacteria is causing it.
3-Z13.12 (ESBL Resistance)
