We have a patient that has not been seen in more than 3 years, so they meet the criteria to bill a new patient visit. The patient is being seen for sleep apnea, which is the reason for their previous visit as well. Does this count as an established problem (it is stable), or does the provider receive credit for this being a new problem due to the time that has passed since they were last assessed? I haven't come across this scenario in the past, so any input would be appreciated.
