In our doctors dictations under exam for musculoskeletal usually they state: "show no cyanosis, clubbing or edema." I was taught not to count this because these are caused by cardiovascular system not a part of musculoskeletal. However someone else in the office says yes to count this because the doctor is physically looking at these areas (extremities).

I don't know which one is correct. Help?

Thank you in advance.

There is some truth to that. You see, cyanosis and edema are cardiovascular findings. Digital clubbing is a musculoskeletal finding.

Alternatively, you could count the body areas (Left Upper Extremity, Right Upper Extremity) but you can't count the same finding as both.

Either way, you should come up with either 2 organ systems reviewed, or 2 body areas reviewed from that statement.
